Good Samaritans use jet skis to help douse burning boat; all aboard rescued safely

WILLARD BAY, Utah — Six people escaped without injury and were rescued by other boaters Friday after a speedboat caught on fire, and two men on jet skis were able to douse the flames by making sharp turns near the boat to spray water over the blaze.

Erick Stucki with Utah State Parks said a 1987 speedboat burst into flames and the six people on board were wearing life preservers and made it safely off the boat without injury. The six were rescued by other boaters nearby.

FOX 13 News viewers who were out on the lake shot video of the fire. The first video shows the flaming boat and individuals apparently swimming away. The second video shows individuals on jet skis riding near the boat in order to send water from the stern of their watercraft over the flames to put out the fire. See the videos above for the footage.

It was not clear what caused the boat to catch on fire.
